Obituary for Edward Porter Williams

Edward Porter Williams, 84, a retired farmer and 32 year employee of IBM, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2018. He was born October 4, 1933 in Lexington, son of the late Cary Alford and Sarah Griffin Williams. Ed was a 1952 graduate of Bourbon County High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as Deacon, Elder, Elder Emeritus, Moderator of the Church Board, and Sunday School teacher of the teenage boy’s class. Ed also coached Little League Baseball. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Susan Allen Williams; daughter, Lynn Allen Williams Mayo; son, Daniel Edward (Karen) Williams; eight grandchildren, Steven (Amanda) Potts, Brandon (Rachael) Potts, John (Kira) Mingua, Meredith (Nathan) Jackson, Daniel (Whitney) Williams, David Mayo, Mallory (Chuck) Lowe, Morgan (Burt) Mingey; siblings, Wanda (Donald) Thompson, Kenny Williams, Cary (Sue) Williams, Mary Ann (Jerry) Kuykendall, Brenda Cotter, Linda Sullivan; and twelve great grandchildren with one due in February 2019. He was preceded in death by a brother, Winfred “Buddy” Williams; and a sister-in-law, Judith Allen Williams. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by Rev. Jeff Bell. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to First Christian Church Capital Campaign or Bluegrass Hospice Care.
