Obituary for Helen Louise Pennington (Ritchie)

Helen Louise Pennington (Ritchie)
Helen Louise Ritchie Pennington, 93, of Paris, died Monday, July 9, 2018 at her daughter’s home. She was born October 2, 1924 in Nicholas County, daughter of the late W.B. and Claudia Lillian Jackson Ritchie.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Herbert Earl Pennington; three siblings, Elizabeth Buckler, Theodore Ritchie, Jewell Wagoner; and a son-in-law, Marvin F. Darland.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Melissa Faye Darland, Claudia Ray Sexton; four grandchildren, Jessica Aaron (Larry) Barrett, Jason Robert Sexton, Brandon Earl Darland, Kristen Elizabeth (Donald) Miller; and five great grandchildren, Jonathan David Moore, Justin Robert Moore, Savannah Faith Barrett, Caitlyn Hope Barrett, and Brylee Robert Sexton.
Helen was a “stay at home mom” for many years, constantly volunteering at Paris First United Methodist Church and school activities. She was a Sunday School teacher, a homeroom mother, and taught 4-H cooking and sewing classes. Later in life, she was employed by the Fleming County Library and drove the bookmobile until she retired twenty years later. Helen was loved by everyone, young and old. She enjoyed life, her friends, and especially her family. She always put them first.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon Thursday, July 12, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Brenda Routt. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Brandon Darland, Justin Moore, Jonathan David Moore, Larry Barrett, and Donald Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Paris First United Methodist Church or Bluegrass Hospice Care.
