What Skyler Meant to Me

I had just turned 16 years old when my sister had Skyler. I have to admit that I was a little jealous at first. You see, Skyler had replaced me as the "baby of the family." All anyone talked about was this new baby and first grandchild in our family. It didn't take long for his big blue eyes and infectious smile to win me over. I loved the this kid pretty shortly after meeting him. I'll never forget the time he came to stay with me in Georgia when he was just a kid. My dog had just died and my husband was fighting in Iraq. Skyler was worried about how sad I was and wanted to stay with me for a while to make sure I was okay. He kept me busy that week and definitely helped cheer me up. That is the kind of person Skyler was. He always wanted to help others and make them happy. His spirit brightened a room when he entered. He had a light about him that drew others to him. This world will be a little dimmer without him. Many will hold him dearly in their hearts. Skyler Ray, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. You will always hold a piece of my heart. I'll love you always. Love, Aunt Emily
