Print
Raymond VanHook Jr, 83, son of the late Raymond and Alma Lee Taylor VanHook, died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Ann Franklin VanHook; daughter, Leiah Lynn VanHook; an aunt, Patty Taylor, Scranton, South Carolina; several cousins; and special friends, Jeanine Kiser, Clara Bowman, Martha Carr, Ann Jones (daughter #2), and Juanita Garrison.
Raymond was a member of First Baptist Church, Paris, and Bourbon Lodge #23, IOOF. He was born and reared on the VanHook family farm where he resided. He was a descendant of an early settler, Samuel VanHook, who was at Ruddles and Martin’s Forts in the 1770’s.
Raymond was a graduate of Bourbon County Vocational High School, Class of 1953. He was a retired Bourbon County Property Valuation Administrator of seven terms and a former State Revenue agent for five years. Raymond served twice in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps, twelve months of which were served in Korea.
He was a lover of animals and an enthusiast of Kentucky and Bourbon County history, and was instrumental in the writing of several books on the subject. He did lots of research of records for people of Bourbon County and also for nonresidents who wanted to know where family had owned property.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, at Hinton-Turner Funeral by Dr. Howard Beauman with burial in Evergreen Memory Gardens with military honors. Casket bearers will be James Ammerman, Brian Doyle, Forest Jackson, Christopher Jones, Tim Stacy, and Brad Dungan. Honorary bearers will be Jim Lovell, Ed Fitzpatrick, Bobby True, Fred Gillispie, Phil Seyfrit, Catesby Clay, Jim Johnson, Charles Prebble, Mike Wall, Dr. Murray West, Kevin Chase, and Del Carr.
