Obituary for James Ancil "Jim" Garrison

James Ancil "Jim"  Garrison
James Ancil Garrison, 76, U.S. Army veteran, died Friday, March 16, 2018 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born September 13, 1941 in North Middletown, son of the late James Tilford and Clara Mildred Garrison. Jim was a 1959 graduate of North Middletown High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in political science from the University of Kentucky. As a civil service employee, he served at the Lexington Blue Grass Army Depot-Avon where he was officially commended for outstanding performance as a Management Analyst. Jim later transferred to Vicenza, Italy and later to Stuttgart, Germany while attached to NATO with the Department of the Army. He then transferred to the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. where he became the Functional Manager of the Navy’s NALDA (Naval Air Logistics Data Analysis) program. While at this position, he was awarded The Navy’s Meritorious Civilian Service Award and The Navy’s Sustained Superior Performance Award. Jim was also a very talented artist and did many excellent portraits, both in oils and charcoal, of friends, relatives, and co-workers. After retirement, he moved back to Lexington, Kentucky. Jim is survived by two brothers, Everett Reynolds Garrison, Gregory Collins Garrison; two nephews, James Tilford Garrison II, Collin James Garrison; and one niece, Laura Kate Garrison. A gathering of friends will be held Friday, March 23, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
