Matthew Hume Payne “Bappy” Ferguson Jr., 77, of Clark County, a retired electrician, U.S. Air Force veteran, husband of Virginia Hale Ferguson, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in Okeechobee, Florida. He was born May 26, 1940 in Lexington, son of the late Matthew Hume Payne and Agnes “Tillie” Maner Ferguson. Matthew attended Paris city schools, graduated from Bourbon County High School, attended the University of Kentucky, and was a member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church. In addition to his wife, Bappy is survived by a son, Robert H. (Stacey) Ferguson, West Fork Arkansas; two daughters, Ashley Christian, Amarillo, Texas, Lucy Ferguson (Larry) VanMeter, Lexington; three grandchildren, Grant H. Ferguson, Sydney Ferguson, Krystal (Bryan) Nixon; three great grandchildren, Kyler Dunsworth, Alexis Nixon, Dok Nixon; a brother, Eugene Maner (Sherry) Ferguson, Lexington; a sister-in-law, Ruth Friendly Ferguson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Janie Cook; three nephews, Gene Ferguson, Brad Ferguson, Jeffery Crump; and a niece, Donna Wood. A brother, James W. Ferguson III, preceded him in death. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Grant H. Ferguson, Gene Ferguson, Brad Ferguson, Braden Ferguson, Clay Ferguson, and Jeffery Crump. Honorary bearers will be Johnny Brennan, Randy Davis, Ron McFadden, Bruce Wornall, Volney Ferguson III, John Ferguson, Bill Ferguson, Harlow Measel, Tommy Lynch, Harold Rhodus, and his numerous other hunting and fishing buddies. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home.
