Obituary for Martha Frances Denny (Purdy)

Martha Frances Purdy Denny, 90, a retired teacher for the Millersburg and North Middletown schools and cattle farmer, widow of Joseph Clifford Denny, died Tuesday, January 02, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was born September 5, 1927 in Bourbon County, daughter of the late William and Mary Smathers Purdy. Martha received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in childhood education, specializing in music education from the University of Kentucky. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a choir member, Bourbon County Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution-Jemima Johnson Chapter; Colonial Daughters, Paris-Bourbon County Historical Society, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, U.K. Alumni Association, and was a long time board member of the Girl’s Fund. Martha is survived by a granddaughter, Martha Grace Denny; and was preceded in death by a son, William Joseph Denny. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. Services will be private. Casket bearers will be Silas Clay Cleaver III, Larry Henry, John James, Jason James, David Faulkner, and Jeremy Wigglesworth. Honorary bearers will be Silas Clay Cleaver II, Jerry Black, Robert Schwartz, Patty Paige Layson, Judy Cleaver, Minnie Davis, Mildred Ruggles, and Lucy Marsh.
