Obituary for Johnny Kirk Griggs

Johnny Kirk  Griggs
Dr. Johnny Kirk Griggs, DVM, 84, a retired equine veterinarian, husband of Linda Falcione Griggs, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at his home. He was born January 3, 1932 in Davidson County, Tennessee, son of the late Henry A. and Mary Kirk Griggs. Dr. Griggs attended the University of Tennessee in pre Veterinary Medicine and obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. He served in the United States Air Force Veterinary Corps and came to Lexington, Kentucky in 1958 and practiced Equine Medicine here until his retirement. Johnny was a veterinarian, horseman, breeder, and wonderful father. He loved the sport of Steeplechasing. He took great pleasure in riding and training his steeplechasers and was proud to have received an Eclipse Award. Johnny was an avid tennis player and enjoyed all of his team competitions. As a businessman, he helped many along the way to succeed. Dr. Griggs loved his farm, horses, and his home. In addition to his wife, Johnny is survived by his children, Miles Henry Griggs, Emily Clayre Griggs, Mary Laura Griggs, J. Kirk (Cathie) Griggs II, Allen Neil (Pam) Griggs, Erritt Hill (Sherry) Griggs; and five grandchildren, Emily Annie Griggs, Jonathan Griggs, R. Turner White, Martha Laurence White, and Emily Claire Griggs. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary A. Maxwell; and a brother, Richard L. Griggs. He was a grand caretaker of the land, the horses and his family. We love him dearly and we will miss him. God Bless him and may he rest in peace. A Memorial service and visitation will be held at Fasig-Tipton Company Newtown Paddock, 2400 Newtown Pike, Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, October 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
