Obituary for Martha Joan Brewer (Gass)
Martha Joan Miller Brewer, 82, formerly of Elizabethton, Tennessee, retired bookkeeper for WJHL TV in Johnson City, TN died Friday, August 26, 2016. She was born February 24, 1934 in Greeneville, TN, daughter of the late Charles Hardin and Hazel Lucille Casteel Gass and was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church in Elizabethton. Martha is survived by a daughter, Kym (David) Pope, Bourbon County; four brothers and sisters, Lois Gass (Bill) Schaff, Lewis (Brenda) Gass, Michael (Shea) Gass, Bobby Jack (Pat) Gass; stepson, Steven (Christine) Brewer; stepdaughter, Sharon Brewer; several step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, G.C. Miller Jr. and Carl Brewer; and seven brothers and sisters, William R. Gass, Everett Lee Gass, Duane Gass, Christine Gass Jenkins, Rev. Phil Gass, Alice Gass Ramsey, and Jimmy Gass. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Oak Street Baptist Church with inurnment in Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton. Memorials may be made to the Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), PO Box 222, Paris, KY 30362, Alzheimer’s Association, 6100 Dutchmans Lane Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205-3284, or one’s favorite charity.
