Mary Elizabeth  Speer (Roberts)
Mary E. Roberts Speer, 88, Georgetown Road, Centerville, the widow of Mendel J. Speer, finished her race on earth and went to be with her Savior Saturday, July 16.

She was born May 3, 1928, in Bourbon County and was the daughter of the late Spence Shelton and Lula Mynear Roberts Sr. She was a lifelong member of the Centerville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. Additionally, she was active for a number of years in leading the Homemakers organization.

A devoted and faithful Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, she leaves behind two surviving Grandsons, SFC(R) Patrick (Betty) Waddell of Mascoutah, Illinois and COL Mendel (Kimberly) Waddell of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Waddell, Timothy Waddell, Kasey Jo Waddell, and Michael Waddell; countless church friends and very special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Mendel, precious daughter Patsy Ann, her sisters Naomi and Opal, and three brothers J.W., Spence Jr. and Vernon.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Paris.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Centerville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jill Ruhl officiating.

Casket bearers will be David Waddell, Patrick Waddell, Ronnie Shrout, Wayne Logan, Tom Hay, and Kelly Pennington.

Burial will be at the Old Union Cemetery on Russell Cave Road.
