Polly Grimes Lawrence, 84, formerly of North Middletown, widow of Frank S. Lawrence, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Bourbon Heights Nursing Home. She was born October 12, 1931 in Sharpsburg, daughter of the late George Washington and Myrtle Vice Grimes. Polly was a graduate of Bourbon County schools, a former board member of Operation Food Basket, and was a member of North Middletown Christian Church where she had been active in the choir and Christian Women’s Fellowship, Ceramics Department. She is survived by a daughter, Connie Lawrence Mele, Louisville; a son, Bruce Wayne Lawrence (Gary Barksdale), Lexington; and a sister, Helen Ecton, Lexington. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Alma Grimes Crouch, Emile Grimes Darnell, Eula Rhodes, Dorothy Clark; and two brothers, Chester and James “Jimmy” Grimes. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Saturday, May 21, at North Middletown Christian Church by Rev. Stephanie Moon with burial in North Middletown Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mike Grimes, Larry Grimes, Mark Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, Michael Wagoner, Jon Grimes, James Grimes, and Tom Boone. The Christian Women’s Fellowship of North Middletown Christian Church will serve as honorary bearers. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to North Middletown Christian Church, P.O. Box 43, North Middletown, KY 40357.
