Mary Spivey Thorpe, 79, Lexington, a retired employee of University of Kentucky Medical Center, widow of Charles Edward Thorpe, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at her home. She was born June 24, 1936 in Bourbon County, daughter of the late Vernon C. and Addie Mae Pryor Spivey. Mary was a graduate of Bourbon Vocational High School, was a Kentucky Colonel, and was a member of Tates Creek Christian Church where she was active in F.O.B. Sunday School. She is survived by a daughter, Esther Y. (Terry) McDaniel, Winchester; a son, Tracy M. (Karen) Thorpe, Lexington; two granddaughters, Tracie L. (Ryan) Phillips, Johnna Beth Thorpe; grandson, Trevor M. Thorpe; a great granddaughter, Ezra Lynn; step grandsons, Tyler Magedanz, Andrew Magedanz; special niece, Barbara Justice; two sisters, Dorothy (Frank) Crockett, Marsha (Mike) Vance; sister-in-law, Dorothy Anderson Spivey; two brothers-in-law, Jess (Norma) Thorp, Willie (Cathy) Thorp; step grandson, Jeremy (Taz) Mockabee; step great granddaughter, Jayden Mockabee; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah C. Thorpe; a sister, Betty Ann Ishmael; and three brothers, Vernon Spivey Jr., Isaac Wayne Spivey, and Ricky Allen Spivey. The family expresses special appreciation to the staff of Hospice of the Bluegrass and especially Mary's caregivers, Melonie and Glenda. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Brad Walden and Rev. Tommy Simpson with burial in Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jason Bailey, Jeff Bailey, Jessie Crockett, Steve Crockett, Ryan Phillips, and James Bowman. Honorary bearers will be Frank Crockett, Terry McDaniel, Trevor M. Thorpe, Mike Phillips, Mike Vance, Todd Justice, and Jimmy Spivey. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
